Working Group Ukraine
Martin Karlsson (CINCH) is setting up a Ukraine working group on behalf of the dggö board. This group is now looking for members who are interested in working for the health economists from Ukraine and the local health system.
Russia's war against Ukraine has immediate, medium and long-term implications for the dggö's sphere of activity. Millions of Ukrainians have fled the country or been internally displaced, including many economists. At the same time, a health catastrophe is emerging that will have repercussions over the coming decades. Even before the war, the Ukrainian healthcare system was burdened with a number of structural problems and was therefore in a poor starting position to deal with such challenges. Added to this is the massive destruction of infrastructure.
dggö members have expertise, resources and networks that could help mitigate some of these consequences. We are also in a good position to advise post-war Ukrainian colleagues on how Ukraine can reform the healthcare system to deal more effectively with health challenges.
The group should undertake the following tasks::
- To coordinate measures for Ukrainian colleagues and students (refugees and those who are still in Ukraine) in the acute crisis.
- To find out how the health economic community of the dggö can support the reconstruction of Ukraine - especially in the area of structural reforms in the health system.
It is being considered to organize a workshop together with Ukrainian colleagues as soon as the situation allows. The aim of this event is to explore the areas in which health economists in the dggö can best support Ukraine.
